Assessment

Technology enhanced strategies for assessment are developing rapidly. Audio and video feedback are being used to provide an added dimension to assessments. Student response systems are also developing rapidly – For example, classroom clickers are a useful piece of hardware, allows students to give immediate feedback on their level of understanding of a given topic.

Socrative is a smart student response system in the form  of a  mobile app. It  allows tutors to engage with students in their classrooms through a series of educational exercises and games via smartphones, laptops, and tablets.

Jing is free software which will allows you to capture screen images or up to five minutes videos of whatever you see on your computer monitor and share it easily.  You’ll first have to download it onto your computer (it works both on Macs and PCs); you’ll then be able to see the little Jing sun on top of your desktop.

It could be used for example to review a piece of student work – which could even be a video or photograph upload of practical work – the video can then be made available to the student to access at a time that suits them.
